About

Dr. Yi-Kong Keung is a hematologist and medical oncologist who practices in Alhambra. While his research background is in bone marrow transplant, leukemia, lymphoma and hematologic malignancies, he is a general oncologist who treats patients with all types of cancer, and offers these patients access to UCLA Health’s full suite of clinical trials and research in Alhambra.

Dr. Keung is well versed in caring for patients of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and is fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese. In addition to his clinical work, he is also a clinical associate professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Dr. Keung was born and raised in Hong Kong. He earned his medical degree from University of Hong Kong School of Medicine. He then completed his internal medicine internship and residency at the University Medical Unit, Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong. He moved to California in 1989 to complete Oncology/Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant fellowships at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Keung has practiced medicine in the United States for the last 30 years. He spent six years at the Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas, followed by 10 years at Bowman Gray—now called Wake Forest University—School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He returned to California in 2009, and started working at UCLA Health in 2013.

Dr. Keung lives in San Gabriel. He participates and volunteers at local cancer support groups by giving lectures on various cancer topics and holding Q & A sessions. He also frequently appears on the local Cantonese radio shows at AM1430, where he discusses cancer and medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American College of Physicians.

When he is not working, Dr. Keung enjoys gardening, playing badminton, reading Chinese and American history, and writing poems and reflective essays.
