Dr. Kaldas specializes in the surgical management of benign and malignant liver disease including resection of liver tumors, and bile duct cancer, to complex primary and redo adult and pediatric liver transplantation. He co-established the UCLA heart-liver disease program aimed at caring for patients with failing Fontan physiology and other patients needing combined heart-liver transplantation. Dr. Kaldas is Principal Investigator on NIH and non-NIH funded research studies in ischemia reperfusion injury of the liver, liver transplant prognostic modeling, and heart-liver transplantation. In addition to serving as Director of the UCLA Liver Transplant Service, Dr. Kaldas is committed to training the next generation of academic transplant surgeons and serves as Director of the UCLA Transplant & Hepatobiliary Surgery Fellowship Program. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He holds positions in national surgical organizations and has been invited to speak on his areas of expertise locally, nationally, and internationally.
